Notes for Healthy Living
For years I’ve listened to people talk about loosing weight. For years I’ve watched people try to loose weight. And loose weight. Most things that I watch people try are temporary so they don’t work.
A diet, and exercise program, a diet and another exercise program. The diet is probably something you don’t want to eat and you are doing it just to loose weight. The same goes for the exercise program.
Now, if you are in love with television and junk food, and are not worried about being overweight, then carry on. If you are happy with that and are tired of people telling you about your weight and health problems, then just carry on. What’s the point of being thin and healthy if you are not happy!
If you want to at least attempt to change, then read on.
Habits, man they are tough to beat. A fellow told me a story once of how he started to loose weight. He had been terribly overweight. He lived on a fairly large property and started out of his death dive by walking down the drive to the mail box instead of driving. Just that alone started to increase his metabolism and it was a start.
Simple things like parking as far away from the store so that you have to do a bit of walking. I had been living in a more rural area where I had to drive everywhere. We moved to the core of a major city and I ended up taking the transit as it was simpler – it didn’t really add all that much time and I could catch up on a bit of reading. In six months of doing this and walking to the corner store instead of driving and walking to the restaurant for a bit to eat with my wife, I lost 25 pounds. I hadn’t intended to loose any weight. But the change of lifestyle triggered my metabolism and off came the pounds.
You can defeat this by coming home and eating a bag of potato chips or nachos. Go through a bag of cookies and all bets are off. Hey sugar will kill you – be temperate. By this I mean don’t overdo it. You don’t HAVE to have a dessert after every meal. If you are so conditioned to this, have either a small one or find something that is not loaded with sugar.
You are going to have to change things. I guarantee that a pill isn’t going to do it. If your doctor is honest with you, he’ll tell you the same thing.
Here’s the other thing: You don’t have to change everything at once. Start with something like parking at the back of the parking lot. Do that for a while. Then look at something else you can do –for example, if you absolutely have to take the kids out to a restaurant to eat – then take them to the Olive Garden instead of Burger King. Keep away from fast food restaurants. They are loaded with MSG and Sugar. And MSG is probably worse than sugar for the fattening of America.
Start with one thing. Get it so it becomes part of your life. You don’t have to loose 30 or 50 pounds in a week or two weeks or two months. As long as you are getting healthier it will come off. And it’s ok if it comes off slowly. Put your attention on the healthy changes, not the loss of weight."
