Accutane helps to clean the skin from the acne and remove the consequences of this disease: scars, dark spots, and inflammations. This is a medical analogue of vitamin A known as Isotretinoin.
The use of Accutane helps to solve a main cause of the acne development – an excessive production of sebum. Due to the disorder of the sebum production, people have pore clogging, so that inflammation occurs, and closed comedone or blackheads appear.
The mechanism of the action of Accutane consists in the reduction of the sebum production. It happens by means of the vitamin A in many metabolic processes in the body including upper and internal layers of the skin.
Accutane also accelerates a regeneration of epidermis. The upper layers of the skin are quickly regenerated and peeled, and new skin is cleaned and does not have dark spots and scars from acne.
The use of Accutane cannot clean your skin of the blackheads. The drug affects only a cause of the disease. But if an inflammation is removed, and a production of sebum is reduced, several cosmetic procedures will be enough in order to completely clean the skin.
The use of Accutane should be started from a minimal dose of 0,5 mg per 1 kg of the body weight even during severe forms of acne resistant to other methods of the treatment. If this dose is well absorbed by the body, it may be increased up to 1 mg of Accutane per 1 kg of a patient’s weight in 1-2 weeks. According to this scheme, the maximal daily dose may be found for every person. Do not take more than 1 mg/kg within a day.
It is better to take the pills after meals with enough water. If the maximal dose causes light side effects in the digestion system, it may be divided into 2, and one half is taken in the morning, and another one – in the evening.
The first results may be seen in 2 weeks of the treatment. The symptoms of acne may grow in the first 3-5 days: inflammation, skin itching, formation of new acne.
- Do not take Accutane for a long period. In general, doctors recommend to take a drug for a short period – 4 weeks. But in case of severe cases, the treatment may take 4-5 months. Do not the medicine longer because it may affect the liver functions
- The use of the medicine is contraindicated during pregnancy or breast-feeding
- Do not take Accutane if you are under 16 years old. Teenagers are more subject to the development of the side effects
- Pancreatitis, severe diseases of liver, pancreatic diabetes, renal failure are chronic diseases when the use of Accutane is contraindicated. If these recommendations are neglected, a risk of the side effects grows
The overdose symptoms of Accutane are the same as the symptoms of hypervitaminosis A: dryness and peeling of the skin, itching, sweating, pain in muscles and joints. But if these symptoms are light, the increase of the daily dose may lead to the load on liver. It may harm the body of a patient. That is why, it is very important to take a correct dose, and if the overdose symptoms appear, go to a doctor at once.
