Avodart is a medical product an active ingredient of which is Dutasteride. This ingredient prevents prostatic hyperplasia and removes the symptoms of the benign prostatic hyperplasia. It happens by means of the inhibition of 5-alha reductase enzyme that turns testosterone into more active androgenic hormone – dihydrotestosterone. Dihydrotestosterone causes an enlargement of the adenoid tissue and benign prostatic hyperplasia in 80% of cases.
A level of dihydrotestosterone drops in the first two weeks of the drug use. In 1-2 weeks of the treatment, a peak of the pharmacological action of Avodart is achieved, and the level of dihydrotestosterone is reduced by 85-90%. The effect is kept within entire treatment.
4325 men suffering from the benign prostatic hyperplasia took part in the medical tests of Avodart. The disease stopped progressing in 24 months and 0,5 mg per day was used. A state of the lower urinary tracts was improved, a speed of urination was increased, and a volume of the prostatic gland was reduced.
Adult men including senior aged men are recommended to take a capsule per day without chewing it and with water. The active ingredients are completely absorbed in the intestine within 30-60 minutes and go to the blood plasma. Due to such quick absorption, the action begins in the first day.
Every capsule of Avodart contains 0,5 mg of Dutasteride. This is the optimal daily dose when a required effect is achieved, and a risk of the side effects is low. It is medically proved that even a triple increase of the daily dose does not cause more intensive inhibition of the dihydrotestosterone synthesis. Therefore, here is no point to increase a dose.
The medicine may be taken both before and after meals. The action begins quickly, and a complete blocking of the androgenic hormone production occurs in 1-2 weeks but Avodart is taken for a long period. The treatment usually lasts for a year.
If renal and hepatic failure, a dose is not adjusted, and a capsule per day is the optimal option.
- Avodart is not recommended patients prone to the high sensation to Dutasteride. If a patient has an allergic reaction during the treatment, it is necessary to stop the use of the drug and consider the alternative medicines.
- Women and teenagers under 18 years old are not prescribed Avodart. They may have hormone disorder which will cause an imbalance in the body and serious diseases
- Patients with severe cardiovascular diseases should consult a cardiologist before taking Avodart
An appearance of the side effects does not depend on a dose. Medical tests have been conducted when volunteers were given a dose of 40 mg of Dutasteride per day within a week. The overdose symptoms did not appear.
However, it does not mean that high doses of Avodart may be taken. In case of the individual intolerance of Dutasteride, even a minimal increase of the daily dose may cause an allergic reaction or other side effects.
