Clomid gives women an ability to become pregnant and regulates their menstrual cycle. This is an antiestrogenic product on the basis of Clomiphene that affects the work of the estrogenic receptors and a synthesis of the estrogens in the body.
Due to the use of Clomid, a production of estrogen is significantly reduced and a production of the gonadotropic hormones grows. And so, the reproductive processes are stimulated in the body, ovulation is caused, and a menstrual cycle is regulated.
The drug may be used during different diseases caused by the toxicity of estrogens:
- Anovulatory cycles
Moreover, Clomid has proved its efficiency in the treatment of oligospermia, a state when amount of spermatozoa drops in ejaculate, and so that a reproductive function is affected. The increased production of gonadotropins improves the quality of ejaculate and returns an ability to conceive.
But Clomid in high doses can slow down a secretion of gonadotropins, so that cycles and ovulation periods are changed. Therefore, the treatment is prescribed by a doctor in accordance with a disease pattern.
Pay attention that Clomid increases a risk of the multiple pregnancy.
The scheme of the use of Clomid is rather specific. The drug is taken by cycles, within 5 days. The treatment starts from the 5th day of the menstrual cycle, and 50 mg (a pill) per day is taken within the next 5 days. In 5 days, the treatment is stopped, and ovulation should occur.
If ovulation did not occur before menstrual cycle, it is recommended to repeat the treatment. But the dose of Clomid is increased up to 150 mg per day.
These 5-day-cycles are done before ovulation but it is done not more than 5 times. If a pregnancy did not happen within 5-6 months, it is necessary to have a new medical examination and find out reasons preventing ovulation.
In case of the treatment of oligospermia or other male diseases due to high level of estrogens, Clomid 50 mg is prescribed for a long period, 3-4 months.
- Women should regularly visit a gynecologist during the treatment. The functions of the ovaries should be controlled. It is also necessary to check the functions of liver, takes the tests of blood and urine
- In case of neoplasms of the genitals (benign/malignant), the use of Clomid is not recommended. A changed hormone level may cause a growth of the tumor
- Moreover, do not take the drug during pituitary tumor and during pregnancy
The overdose with Clomid may have negative consequences. First of all, the standard side effects grow: nausea, vomiting, temporal loss of vision, and fever.
But if these symptoms are neglected, a hormone imbalance may happen, and so the treatment may be useless. Besides zero therapeutic effect, a menstrual cycle may be affected, and a serious change of the hormone level may happen. Therefore, women are contraindicated to take more than 150 mg per day or take the drug for more than 5 days.
