Cymbalta regulates the most important neurotransmitters in the body which are responsible for the emotional and psychological state. It blocks a destruction of serotonin and noradrenaline and increases their concentration in the subcortical structure of the brain.
Duloxetine is responsible for a therapeutic effect of Cymbalta. The ingredient has a broad action but the main purpose is to treat depression.
Besides an antidepressive effect, Cymbalta has also antianxiety, analgesic effects. The drug provides a light stimulating or sedative action depending on a dose. These effects are rather balanced, and therefore Cymbalta has many advantages before other antidepressants and is often prescribed during many psychological disorders.
Cymbalta may be taken for the treatment of many diseases: major depressive disorder, depression with anxiety, neuropathic pains, somatic disorders, fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy, and others.
A distinctive feature of Cymbalta is a softaction. Due to this, a therapeutic effect may be felt in 2 weeks after the started treatment, and a number of side effects is lower in comparison with analogical products.
Cymbalta is produced in capsules for the oral use. The capsules should be swallowed without chewing or breaking it. Do not add the drug to food or mix it with liquids because it may affect the enteric coating and the absorption of the active ingredients in the blood.
A recommended initial dose of Cymbalta is 60 mg once per day regardless of the meals. Some patients should increase a dose up to the maximal one – 120 mg per day 2 times (60 mg in the morning and in the afternoon with the interval of 8 hours) in order to achieve a good result. A sedative and stimulant effect depends on a dose. Therefore the dose may be adjusted in accordance with these effects.
The treatment usually takes 3-4 months. A manufacturer does not restrict a duration of the treatment but most doctor do not recommend to take Cymbalta more than a year. If the treatment should be continued for more than a year, it is necessary to take a break for 2-3 months.
- There is no medical data confirming a safety of Cymbalta for patients under 18 years old. Therefore, children and teenagers should refuse from the use of the antidepressant
- Cymbalta is not prescribed with tricyclic antidepressants and MAO inhibitors. Their interaction may be accompanied by the side effects
- If closed-angle glaucoma, it is better to refuse from the use of Cymbalta because the intraocular pressure may be high during the treatment
- Do not take alcohol during the treatment
An overdose may be accompanied by the following symptoms: tremor, clonic seizures, ataxia, vomiting, and low appetite. There are severer reactions in the central nervous system and cardiovascular system. It all depends on an individual sensation of the body to Duloxetine. Therefore, it is hard to predict a reaction during the overdose.
But in any case, the development of the side effects may tell about the increase of the allowed dose. In this case, it is necessary to see a doctor and reduce a daily dose, if needed.
